Guwahati (Assam) [India]December 19 (ANI): The Northeast has been the main focus of the entire development agenda of the Center and Indian Railways is contributing significantly to the transformation of this region through better modes of transport.
The New Line Railway Bairabi-Sairang project to connect the Northeast state of Mizoram with the rest of the country is one such project that is likely to be completed soon.
Sabyasachi De, Head of Public Relations (PRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway said that the project once completed will mark the dawn of a new era in terms of communication and trade, in the Northeast region of the country, especially Mizoram.
The Bairabi-Sairang project aims to create another 51.38 km railway in Northeast India. The New Line Railway Bairabi-Sairang project consists of 55 bridges requiring approximately 42,000 MT of steel to be fabricated, transported and erected.
He said that a record 35,000 MT of steel was manufactured in the last 14 months and about 30,000 MT was transported to various work sites. “Transportation of fabricated girders to bridge sites across various bridge sites is a very difficult and challenging task that is being done with 2-2 round-the-clock deployment of relays and heavy vehicles to help with sharp curves in narrow mountain roads and pull/ pushed into the steepest gradient of these trailers,” De said.
He further said that the construction of the steel beams is a critical activity of the project.
“Despite cold nights and remote areas, the work is being executed 24 x 7 to speed up the progress. Though there are many challenges in the execution of this project much less work season due to very heavy and prolonged monsoon, very difficult and hilly terrain through forest deep, poor access, non-availability of construction materials and skilled labor in Mizoram etc., Northeast Frontier Railway is making every effort to fulfill its commitment in the first commissioning of the project. Work at all project sites will continue even in night shift., ” Two said.
NF Railway CPRO also said that, with its completion, tourism and socio-economic development of the state and the region will get a much needed boost.
“Once the project will be operational, it will be important to connect Mizoram with the railway network.
