Aizawl: A criminal case has been filed against ABCI Infrastructure Private Limited at Hnahthial police station, following the death of 12 workers as a result of the collapse of a stone quarry run by the road construction company, according to authorities, TOI reported.
According to Robert Hnamte, officer-in-charge of the Hnahthial police station, a suo moto criminal case has been filed against ABCI, accusing the corporation of causing death by negligence under section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

ABCI Infrastructures Pvt Ltd, a private company that is building a highway between Hnahthial and Dawn hamlet, gets stone from the quarry.

Hnamte noted that one person was still missing and that the police were working 24 hours on Saturday to recover the body.

Five of the 12 workers were from West Bengal, three from Assam, and two each from Jharkhand and Mizoram.

Residents of Maudarh village claimed that at least five earth movers, a rock crusher, and a drilling machine were buried under the debris.

The stone quarry, about 160 kilometers from the state capital Aizawl, has been operating for two and a half years.

Earlier, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued a notification to the member secretary of Mizoram state pollution control board, director of state geology and mine directorate, director of state disaster management, deputy commissioner of Lunglei district, ABCI Infrastructure Private Limited. , and some other central agencies regarding the accident.
