PITFIELD, Mass. – The Berkshire Community Action Council helps ensure thousands of children have new winter clothes each year through its decades-long Warm Winter Clothes program.

They recently added things like the Giving Tuesday holiday party and a winter boutique to enhance the experience for everyone – both giving and receiving.
“Giving Tuesday for us is a coat and boot donation or monetary donation, and it should help keep this program going for another 41 years,” said Michelle Sylvester, BCAC Community Programs Manager.
Their new warm clothing boutique allows families who are getting clothes for their children to come in and shop.
“We wanted to give families the option,” Sylvester said, “to choose a color, size and style for their child, rather than keeping them in bags and not having a choice.”
The boutique is open in November and December for families who signed up in the fall. Registrations help the organization gauge what they need to ask for, especially during Giving Tuesday, which has turned into a celebration at Berkshire Palate for the third year.
“Just create a little joy for Giving Tuesday, not just ‘make me a donation,'” said Director of Communications and Development Jennifer Jasiorkowski. It takes more than BCAC to do this and provide clothing for children.”
Donors and local organizations help grow BCAC’s Warm Winter Clothes program, which they say clothes about 2,000 children each year.
“Every year there are a lot of children, a lot of work,” Yasierkovsky said. – Actually, this is a year-round program, not only in winter. So it takes all year round to clothe these children.’
BCAC said the best part is being able to make the winter season better for children and their families.
“Just seeing how happy some kids are when they get a coat,” Sylvester said. “And their parents know there’s an option and they have a choice.”
