Expected Marvel Movie & Show Cutbacks for 2023 and 2024 | Popgen Tech

After Marvel Studios broke records with its MCU Phase 4 release slate, a new rumor suggests that fans shouldn’t expect the same amount of releases over the next two years.

In 2021, the MCU released a franchise-record nine projects in theaters and on Disney+, including eight from the live-action sphere. This past year saw only a slight drop to eight different releases, which included the first two MCU Special Presentations with Werewolf in the Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special both coming to Disney+.

Even though the Multiverse Saga still has a lot of new material left to release in the coming years, fans and critics are concerned about Marvel Studios being a bit ambitious with its release schedule. In fact, returning Disney CEO Bob Iger is already considering some major changes to that upcoming slate to ensure the quality of the MCU remains intact as the story continues to unfold.

Now, a new rumor may be telling fans not to expect the same amount of releases from the last two years as Phase 5 and Phase 6 inch closer.

Marvel Studios Reduction Coming?

Phase 5 of the MCU

Marvel Studios is expected to reduce the number of movies and TV shows it releases in 2023 and 2024, according to Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus.

The insider noted that this is to ensure that the quality of the MCU remains as high as possible and that fans shouldn’t expect to see an MCU release every month, which was mostly the case in 2021 and 2022:

“While moving the slate means waiting longer for future projects to release, it’s ultimately for the sake of maintaining quality > quantity. That’s all I’ll say. Don’t expect a 2022 schedule without at least 1 Marvel project per month staying true for 2023/2024.”

Below is the current slate of announced movie and show releases for 2023 and 2024, with both years slated for eight releases each so far:

2023 Movies

2023 Shows on Disney+

2024 Movies

2024 Shows on Disney+

Which 2023 and 2024 Marvel Projects Will Be Delayed?

After it took Marvel 11 years to release the 23 films that make up the Infinity Saga, the studio moved fast and furious by completing the massive Phase 4 slate in just two short years. But while fans got a new piece of content almost every month of the year in 2021 and 2022, many complained that it resulted in a lack of the same quality that came with Phases 1-3.

While three movies in 2023 is certainly nothing to worry about, since that’s the number Marvel has used for every year since 2017, Disney+ shows could be a different story, even if many of them are already deep that in progress. There are already rumors that insiders are concerned about production for next year Echo, and with Agatha: Coven of Chaos not scheduled to begin production until early 2023, it’s highly likely that it won’t be ready for the end of the same year.

If it means more delays for Phase 6 or any of them Avengers The movies are a mystery, though it should reassure fans that Marvel is looking to make sure the Multiverse Saga is the best it can be. With Bob Iger now back in the driver’s seat for Disney, many hope that even with fewer potential releases each year, they will live up to the standard that the MCU has been building for more than a decade.

Phase 5 of the MCU will begin in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawill be released in theaters on February 17, 2023.
