The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with some powerful Avengers. While we recently told you that ‘Spider-Man’ Peter Parker is stronger than ‘Captain America’ Steve Rogers, our Marvel trivia today is all about Cap and his special abilities – the ability to lift The God of Thunder – Thor’s weapons – Stormbreaker and Mjolnir.

While in Avengers: Age of Ultron it was teased that Chris Evans’ character would have the strength to lift Thor’s hammer, fans were left with goosebumps when they finally saw him pose and fight with it in the final Infinity film Saga, the Avengers: Endgame. Not only Mjolnir, but he also managed to use the latest weapon created by Eitri the Dwarf – despite Thor saying it could kill ordinary people. But how did he do that? Well, read on to find out this theory that explains how he possesses the strength to wield both weapons.

After teasing in Avengers: Age of Ultron that Captain America was worthy of wielding Mjolnir and seeing him use it to attack Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, we saw Cap wielding Stormbreaker for a few seconds. But how did he survive while holding the giant ax in his hands? Well, let’s talk about the axe, Thor got it after Eitri the Dwarf made it for him in Avengers: Infinity War. While on a quest to create Stormbreaker, Thor expresses his desire to create a weapon capable of killing Thanos. This resulted in the Guardians of the Galaxy suggesting that they should all also have something that could kill the Mad Titan.

Upon hearing this, Thor tells them that this is not possible because “they simply lack the strength to hold them. Your bodies will crumble as your minds descend into madness.” If the weapons of Nidavellir are so difficult to command/handle, then how did Captain America do it?

According to a theory shared by Screenrant, the answer could be twofold – 1) Captain America is a super-soldier, and 2) he possesses the strength of Thor (so he can hold Mjolnir). The site states that the only humans (not androids or AI) other than Steve who can hold Stormbreaker in their hands in the MCU are Thor and Thanos – the latter briefly captured Stormbreaker and used it to impale the God of Thunder . His origins as a human make this work even more impressive when compared to godlike figures. It also appears that some mental strength is also required based on the ending of Thor’s warning, so that Steve’s part doesn’t come from a bottle.

The other aspect of Captain America that may explain his ability to wield Stormbreaker is that he once came close to wielding Mjolnir. Although the creations and enchantments of Thor’s weapons are different, the levels of power they grant the user are similar. It is confirmed that one does not need to be worthy to take the Stormbreaker (which is how Groot manages to lift the ax head of the stick). Proving his worth by wielding Mjolnir, we know Cap has Thor’s power running through his veins throughout that battle. Stormbreaker is the stronger weapon of the two, after all.

Well, do you think this is the only reason why Captain America was able to use the Stormbreaker, or do you think there was a third reason? Let us know in the comments.
