As the holiday season officially begins, Linda Fargo—Senior Vice President of Bergdorf Goodman’s Fashion Office and Director of Women’s Fashion and Store Presentation—poses with Santa Claus at the store’s holiday window opening. “I’ve been good … for most of the year,” she captioned her Instagram. As was the case in Fargo no good this year? “Not giving up my guilty pleasures,” she said, that is. Ozark. (The same, the same, but White lotus.)

We chatted the night before she headed to the Linda shop — Fargo’s curated collection of holiday favorites that features everything from printed Marni sets to Christian Louboutin patent pumps — on Fifth Avenue in Bergdorf’s, and she’s set to look “really festive “. She chooses between two looks: a Christopher Kane holiday red turtleneck and a unicorn striped jacket from Attico. Ahead of tons of Christmas and New Year’s parties, Fargo shared some tips on what makes for a great holiday season, including outings, the perfect holiday outfit, and her seasonal pet peeves.

“No hesitation: jewelry. I think if there’s one time of the year when you’re going to screw someone up, it’s this time. I have a necklace that I have had since I was 5 years old. I gave my boyfriend rings last Christmas; he had never worn them before. If a guy is not used to looking at jewelry on a certain part of his body, it becomes new. He said, “Wow, I love it.” You can even give a boyfriend pearls. Now all the rules are out the window.”

“Not making an effort — like showing up at a holiday event like it’s a normal Friday. Another annoyance has nothing to do with outfits, but has to do with holiday dinner etiquette. If you’re at a holiday dinner and your friend complains to you about their seat at the table, just tell your friend make it work. Sitting is really hard. Sometimes even with the most unexpected place, you can find someone and just make the most of it.”

“New kitchen. This won’t be your usual kitchen with white marble countertops and white cabinets. I’m going to put a huge mural of the Amalfi Coast on the wall and channel Italy into a fantasy space. Plus: a trip to Venice.”

“Having a signature look — in my case, my red lipstick. My current favorite is from Pat McGrath; she is the best. It’s from her LiquiLUST collection and Pat calls it a legendary matte lipstick. It doesn’t transfer, so I can kiss as many people as I want throughout the day, or I’ll have lunch and dinner and it won’t budge. One of the things I love about the beauty world is that when a product just becomes a part of you, there’s no need to adjust or test it. I’m wearing the bold red shade Elson, named after my friend Karen Elson.”

“Moments related to love. I had a big birthday this year and I felt surrounded by love because people went out of their way for me and were incredibly generous.”
