Local clothing consignment business for sale

The owner hopes that her concept of the store as an LGBTQ-friendly, gender-friendly place to shop for clothes for all ages and occasions will continue under the new ownership.

The owner and operator of Rock It Consignment, a well-stocked clothing store located downtown, is putting her business up for sale and hopes to have a new owner in place before her store closes at the end of December.

Alena Sinacola, who has owned the store for the past two years, said she is eager to find a new type of work that better fits her lifestyle as a busy mother of a nine-year-old daughter.

But she hopes her concept of the store as an LGBTQ-friendly place to shop for clothes for all ages and all occasions will continue under new ownership.

During a tour of the store, Sinacola said her spacious retail space is particularly niche for the children’s clothing range.

One Rock It room — which includes a cozy nook for reading and playing — is devoted to children’s clothing.

“We don’t have many options for children” [clothing] on Vashon,” Sinacola said.

The store’s range for adults ranges from clothing, shoes, boots and accessories to casual wear.

Located across from the Village Green and steps away from Lost & Found, Vashon Island Baking Company, Luna Bella’s and Raven’s Nest, Rock It has a steady local customer base, Sinacola said. The summer months, she added, bring increased tourist traffic to the store.

Included in the sale are several industrial sewing machines ideal for garment sewing and alterations.

Bringing this much-needed service back to the island will attract new customers and create a second, stable source of income for the business, Sinacola said.

Now the sewing machines are located in a spacious room in the back of the store.
