PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – The Panama Center of Hope is helping those in need stay warm by providing them with winter clothing.

“We had coats coming in and as soon as they came in, they were right out the door,” Jane Dye said.

Jane Dye, who runs the clothing department at the centre, said they had to put up a ‘closed due to capacity’ sign almost every day. It means that they have already given what they could.

“We had 60 people come Tuesday, representing 205 people in families, and obviously we never have enough to meet that need,” Dye said.

She said they had very few coats for women and men.

“Oh my god, I can’t even tell you,” Dye said. “I don’t think I can put much, much value on it.”

They even need gloves and hats. They are also in desperate need of blankets.

“They also need blankets, and we can’t supply that many blankets and can only limit one blanket per family,” Dye said.

Another organization also distributes winter wardrobe items.

“We’re actually giving out hats, scarves, gloves and actually these jackets here,” said Michele Bates, donation and volunteer coordinator for the Panama Rescue Mission.

Bates said they also need warmer clothing.

“I need these heavy coats, all thick,” said Bates.

They only have about 30 left, and as the temperature drops even more, more people are stopping by the men’s shelter in search of something warm.

“Please bring me heavy jackets if you have any, and blankets, we really need them,” said Bates.

Bates said they need hundreds of jackets and blankets.

“I need about 300 blankets and 200 jackets,” Bates said.
