Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is one of the most beloved comic book movies, and it’s one of the few to win an Oscar. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, creative duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed some new details about the film’s sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The second in a planned trilogy, Spider-Verse 2 will once again star Miles Morales, a few years older and wiser. However, while the first film was about other Spider-People invading his universe, this time, Miles will be venturing into the multiverse himself. The film will also feature returning characters such as Spider-Gwen and Peter B. Parker. Lord and Miller estimate that around 240 characters have been designed for the film, so expect to see a lot of new faces.
Two major new characters include Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, teased in the credits of the first film. Jason Schwartzman will play a villain known as Spot, who has the ability to create portals to different dimensions. Lord and Miller described him as a classic cartoon baddy, similar to Wile E. Coyote. Despite the character’s goofy costume and appearance, Lord described him as a “dark mirror” of Miles, as he wanted to take him seriously as a villain.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 2, 2023.
