Christmas is just a few days away, and Disney fans are probably looking for something to get excited about on Disney+ while those cookies are baking in the oven or those chestnuts are roasting over the fire. While some may stream a list of Disney Channel Christmas specials, or rewatch them The Muppet Christmas Carol for the umpteenth time, Marvel Studios dropped a suggestion on their social media.

Marvel Studios has dropped two Christmas-themed photos with the cast of Hawkeye on Disney+, promoting the series and encouraging fans to rewatch the show in time for the holiday season. A superhero series where Clint Barton and Kate Bishop bash bad guys with bows and arrows by the glow of Christmas lights would certainly be a refreshing change from Ebenezer Scrooge, and the die- diehard Marvel fans will certainly participate in that action. While it’s certainly expected, it also comes at a rather convenient time, as lead actor Jeremy Renner just announced his upcoming docu-series set to premiere on Disney+ in early 2023.

Reinnervations beside, Hawkeye it seems to get noticed as often as its titular Avenger. Many Marvel fans may be more likely to watch the much-loved Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, but that’s not to say that this series doesn’t also have seasonal charm. Think about it, Hawkeye is set against a twinkling, neon-lit New York City at Christmastime, a common but beloved trope of the holiday season. It may lack a special guest appearance by Kevin Bacon, but it does have some festive battle sequences against the Tracksuit Mafia.

With that in mind, this could also be a dogwhistle on Marvel’s part. This could be the studio’s way of telling viewers “you might want a refresher course before season 2.” Whether or not this is a sign that fans might be getting a second season sooner rather than later is entirely up for debate, but that doesn’t mean the evidence isn’t there. Only time will tell.
