According to new data, general audiences are more excited about Marvel Studios’ MCU projects than Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC Comics movies for next year.
As 2022 draws to a close, fans are starting to turn their eyes to 2023 and the many goodies it has to offer.
For Marvel, this includes the first film appearance of Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and James Gunn’s last hurray in Guardians of the Galaxy.
With everyone’s DCU ending, fans have new adventures with Shazam, Flash, Aquaman, and newcomer Blue Beetle, marking the final four films in the current era of the DC Universe.
Now, according to a new poll, it’s become clear that fans have a clear choice when it comes to which set of new movies they’re most excited about.
High Pleasure for Marvel In 2023
According to the results from a Fandango poll, general audiences are looking forward to next year’s MCU projects more than DCU movies.
On the list, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 takes first place, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse taking second place and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania sitting comfortably in third.
The first DCU film on the list is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomwhich is in the sixth slot.
The top ten are as follows:

- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
- John Wick: Chapter 3
- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Why Marvel Studios in the DCU?
Honestly, it’s no surprise to see how general audiences are getting more excited about Marvel Studios’ offerings. In general, more of the world is aware of the various MCU projects that are around the corner—especially when compared to the DCU.
Another big factor lies in where the DCU is currently—in the midst of a tumultuous transition. With James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge of content in that corner of the universe, signs are heavily pointing to a hard reset of the DC Comics live-action cinematic universe.
For many, this makes the four DCU projects in 2023 feel pointless, as they ultimately mean nothing. It’s a perfectly understandable point of view, but unfortunately, a reset is what those movies need most.
It’s worth noting that a major MCU film didn’t make the list: The miracles. The Captain Marvel sequel, starring Brie Larson, Iman Villani, and Teyonah Parris, has apparently flown under the radar for most.
One aspect of this reaction is likely due to the mixed reception by audiences in 2019 Captain Marvel. Another is how both Quantumania and Vol. 3 have trailers to their names, while The miracles no—although, in February, that will probably be corrected.
Quantumania is set to hit theaters on February 17, 2023, with Vol. 3 followed a few months later on May 5. The miracles then landed on July 28.
