Mizoram Minister of State for Excise and Narcotics K. Beichhua on December 13 resigned from the Ministry of Zoramthanga. The minister submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Zoramthanga.
Speaking to reporters after submitting his resignation letter, Mr. Beichhua said Mr. Zoramthanga, who is the president of the Mizo National Front (MNF), told him to resign because he wanted to reshuffle the cabinet.
“I received a letter from the Chief Minister on Monday evening asking me to resign from my post. It [Zoramthanga] said he wants to reshuffle the cabinet,” Mr. Beichhua said.
The MNF lawmaker from Mizoram’s south Siaha constituency said he would continue to be a lawmaker and stay with the party for now.
Mr. Beichhua, however, told reporters that he would decide in the future whether he would join any other party based on the aspirations of the people in his constituency. Mr Beichhua was elected from the Siaha constituency on an MNF ticket for two consecutive terms since 2013.
He was the Minister of State in the Zoramthanga Ministry and held the portfolios of Excise and Narcotics, Social Welfare, Sericulture and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry. Elections to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly are due in the latter part of 2023.
