Aizawl: Engineer-turned-politician Lalrinawma, who stepped down as deputy Speaker of the Mizoram Assembly last week, would take charge of the Mizoram state cabinet headed by Chief Minister Zoramthanga tomorrow, December 20.
Officials on Monday said that Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati would administer the oath of office to the 49-year-old ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) legislator Lalrinawma at a meeting to be held at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
On the instructions of the Chief Minister, Minister of Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs K. Beichhua resigned from his post on December 13.
Beichhua, who held excise and narcotics, social welfare and sericulture, veterinary, before his resignation, mentioned that he was told to resign by Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga as he wanted to reshuffle the cabinet and portfolio.
Political impasse in the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) in southern Mizoram’s Siaha where Beichhua was elected in the last assembly polls is said to be the major reason for his resignation.
Elections to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly are expected to be held in November or December 2023.
