The National Green Tribunal (NGT), ordered a compensation of Rs 2.4 crore to the victims of the rock quarry collapse on November 14.

An official of the Mizoram Pollution Control Board (MPCB) said that the NGT has asked the Mizoram government to convince the private company operating the stone mine to give at least Rs 2.4 crore (Rs 20 lakh each) as compensation or else the state would have to. pay the payment.

The official said that the State Government has given compensation of Rs 1 lakh to each deceased and they are expecting Rs 2 lakh for the families of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

NGT was hearing suo-moto cases. The National Human Rights Commission acting on a complaint by Delhi-based human rights activists has asked the Mizoram Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report on the disaster. Twelve people died after a large part of a stone quarry collapsed on November 14 in Maudarh village in Mizoram’s Hnahthial district while they were working in the cave.
