Daredevil star Charlie Cox has clarified his comments about the possible appearance of his Marvel character in Deadpool 3.
In an exclusive chat with TechRadar, Cox confirmed that he won’t be making a cameo in Deadpool 3, let alone feature in a larger capacity. Instead, the next time we’ll see The Man Without Fear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – outside of a potential cameo in Echo’s Marvel Phase 5 TV show – will be in his own standalone MCU Disney series Plus, aka Daredevil: Born again.
Surprisingly, Cox clarified an answer he gave at Germany’s Roster Con 2022. During a panel at the Dortmund-based event, Cox suggested that Born Again will be similar in tone – from humor and action perspectives – to Deadpool. To the delight of the crowd, Cox also said that “there’s a place for Daredevil to show up in Deadpool”, before adding: “Great, now that’s going to be a news story.”
When you’re in the superhero game like Cox is, you know when you say something that will resonate with fans and the media. Unsurprisingly, the MCU rumor mill went into overdrive in the wake of Cox’s comments, with much speculation that he could make a shock appearance in Deadpool 3.
However, Cox told TechRadar that nothing could be read into his comments, with the British actor keen to deny that he will appear in the Marvel film starring Ryan Reynolds.

“Oh god, what did I say again?” Cox asked when TechRadar brought up Daredevil’s potential appearance in Deadpool 3. After reminding him about his answer at Roster Con, he added: “Oh yeah, I said that in Germany, didn’t I? I can tell you now, definitely not in Deadpool 3.”
Since Deadpool and Daredevil have teamed up in various Marvel comics over the decades, Cox’s answer is sure to disappoint the MCU fanbase. After all, Cox’s Matt Murdock and Reynolds’ Wade Wilson are two of Marvel’s most popular live-action characters. Seeing them join forces on the big screen with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who is confirmed to return as the fan favorite superhero one last time in Deadpool 3, will break the internet.
Of course, Cox could be trying to throw us off the scent by playing up a possible cameo in Deadpool’s third cinematic adventure. However, Cox made it clear he didn’t want to lead Daredevil or MCU fans by teasing something that may or may not happen, adding: “If it’s going to be true, I didn’t mean to spoil something. If not, fans who are excited about something I’d say will fail.”
File this one under “incredibly unlikely” for now, then. Even if Cox is telling the truth, which we believe he is, there’s still plenty of MCU content to look forward to in the coming years.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania officially kicks off Phase 5 of the MCU in February 2023, along with Daredevil: Born Again as part of Marvel’s next slate of superhero movies and TV shows. Deadpool 3 could also be part of Phase 5, though it’s more likely that it will be the first project released as part of Phase 6.
As well as Ant-Man 3 and Daredevil’s first MCU production, Marvel fans can look forward to shows like Secret Invasion and Loki season 2. In terms of movies – read our guide on how watch the Marvel movies in order while you’re here – The first trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 teases Adam Warlock and baby Rocket among other fascinating moments. That film will arrive in May 2023, with The Marvels (July 2023) currently being the final Phase 5 film slated to arrive next year.
