In recent years, the Pokémon series has allowed us to customize our trainers. We’re no longer stuck with Ash Ketchum’s pens – the eyedropper featured in games like Sword and Shield has become legendary.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet supports customizable outfits, faces, and hair, but with one key difference: you’re now a schoolboy in a school uniform. As a result, customization is a bit more limited, but you can still show off your style! Here’s how to change your clothes and appearance in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to change clothes

If you have a new outfit in your bag, you can change into it at any time by pressing the left directional pad button on the Joy-Con or controller.

Move through the clothing categories using the left and right buttons on the D-Pad, select the clothes you want to try on with the up and down buttons, and press A to try things on.

You can view the outfit by pressing Y.

Can you change/remove the form?

You can change outfits from spring, summer, fall and winter, but that’s about it. Your form stays all the time, sorry. The uniform colors will also match your game, with orange-red for Scarlet and blue-purple for Violet.

Here are the differences:

  • Spring: Long narrow trousers, white shirt with long sleeves and colored cuffs, tie and suspenders.
  • summer: White short-sleeved shirt, tie and shorts.
  • Autumn: Knee-length shorts, long-sleeved white shirt with colored cuffs and tie, puffy waistcoat.
  • winter: Long skinny trousers, a white shirt with a tie, a blue jumper and a gray long-sleeved zip-up jacket.

How to remove this stupid hat

Go to the hat menu and press X to get rid of the school cap. You can also do this with gloves, socks and glasses.

Why are the caps not loading?

Some hairstyles are incompatible with hats. If your hats won’t load at all, this is probably why.

How to change the Rotom phone case

In the clothing menu, scroll all the way to the right to find Rotom phone cases. You can get new ones from Delibird Presents and from the woman near the steps in Mesagos.

How to change appearance

Press Y to open the outfit menu, then press the + button to open the appearance menu. Here you can completely change your face, from the shape of your eyes to your makeup. You can also press the minus button to temporarily remove glasses and hats to get a better view of your look.

How to change your hair

Unfortunately, you cannot change your hairstyle in this menu – you will have to go to the salon. You can find them on your map in big cities where they will appear as a scissor icon.

Changing your hair costs $3,000, so make sure you know what you want, but it won’t cost you anything if you refuse.

Where to buy new clothes

There are clothing stores in the cities of Mesagos, Levitsia and Kaskarafa. Open your map when you’re in one of these places and you’ll see shops marked on your map – the ones with the little t-shirt are fashion boutiques. They often look just like “Fashion Street”, which is a row of fashion shops.

Here’s what they sell:

  • Begin — bags
  • Capburg — hats
  • Zapaldeia – shoes
  • Sock quarter – socks
  • Spec Shack – glasses

There are also general fashion stores with specific styles:

  • Rough and tough – sports and everyday
  • Verocidad — high-end fashion (think designer brands and huge price tags)
  • Seguro style – biker gear

Hopefully, even if we can’t change our actual outfits, there are enough tweaks left to make our mark on the world and present ourselves in style.
