AIZAWL: Prayers, carols and feasts marked Christmas throughout the Christian-dominated state of Mizoram, no matter church denomination, on Sunday.
Church bells rung throughout the state to make members ‘reward the Lord’ and provide their providers. Dressed of their finest garments, they gathered on the place of worship to ‘glorify the new child child, the Saviour’. Tea and snacks, together with conventional ‘chhangban’ or sticky bread constituted of Mizo rice, jaggery and eggs, have been distributed after the church congregations.
The pageant was celebrated with none Covid-19 restrictions after two years.
On Monday, the festivities would proceed with conventional neighborhood feasts throughout the state.
Tight safety preparations have been in place to forestall any disruption to the festivities as the manager mayor and police have been conducting cellular and foot patrols from December 21. Apart from a number of highway accidents, the Christmas celebrations remained largely peaceable, stated a police official.
