Tamil Nadu vs Andhra: Day 3 report
In a pressure situation, Ricky Bhui batted calmly. A natural striker, he was firm on any foot. In the pan, it appears the great defense blade.
On Bhui rests much of Andhra’s hopes.
Bhui (62 bats, 108b, 5×4, 1×6) and Andhra’s score at the end of the third day at 162 for five – leading by 114 – means the final day will be decisive in this Ranji Trophy clash at the Ramakrishna ground.
Thursday ended dramatically with UMS Girinath (18), made by Sai Kishore’s extra bounce, being cleverly caught by Sai Sudharsan at funny point.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu added just 72 runs, bowled out for 345. A lead of 48 was below his expectations.
Hanuma Vihari organized his attack imaginatively and led from the front when he opened the innings.
The duel between a Sandeep Warrier and Vihari was fascinating. There were good carries for Warrier even in the afternoon of the third day and he hit Vihari on the chest with a lift.
Vihari continued after the treatment. The brave Vihari (26 off 48) was prized out on the leg-side by a rising ball from Vijay Shankar. Vihari was happy with the verdict.
Ricky Bhui and Sheikh Rasheed looked good – Rasheed flashed L. Vignesh’s seamer to the point fence.
However, Sai Sudharsan’s brilliant direct hit from square leg, ended Rasheed’s tenure (21).
The left-hander Karan Shinde was superbly caught by Sai Sudarshan when Washington Sundar turned one away.
In the morning, seamers Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scalped four, and KV Sasikanth impressed on a Coimbatore surface with its traditional morning fizz. .
The Washington left-hander, trained well, ran himself out and Shankar’s 75-ball 26 was finished by Lalith Mohan’s away spinner.
Young southpaw Pradosh Ranjan Paul played close to the body, and showed delicate touch, before being caught in the deep by Nitish.
Sai Kishore hit two straight sixes off Shoaib Md. Khan who did not turn, but the entry into Tamil Nadu was concluded soon.
Tamil Nadu’s hero of the day was Sai Sudharsan with two fine catches and a sensational run out. This match has his stamp.
