Fighting the Kree where they stand is probably the most of what Carol Danvers has done in the interim Captain Marvel and his return to Earth in Avengers: Endgame. Since it’s all off screen, however, audiences have yet to see what it all entails.
The synopsis speaks of a “destabilized universe,” suggesting that the Kree reach and their influence is greater than originally shown. Putting a dent in such a vast empire would surely throw the universe into chaos, requiring Captain Marvel to step in and police the galaxy. After all, their history on Earth in the MCU is quite extensive, as they interfered in ancient affairs and encountered the Asgardian race in the past. They also convinced several species that the Skrulls were evil people, showing just how nefarious and far-reaching the Kree’s ambitions were. By removing such a force, Carol Danvers likely freed many alien species, for better and for worse.
The Kree May Be a Major Force in Future MCU Movies
The Skrulls have changed quite a bit from their comic book counterparts, as they are usually more villainous. The Captain Marvel the film made the shapeshifters into a more sympathetic race, though they will still be the antagonists of the upcoming one Secret Assault Disney+ streaming series. With little build-up to this storyline in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, it’s still clear that the Skrulls won’t be that big of a threat when all is said and done.
Instead, their usual popularity in the comics may be taken by their rivals, the Kree, mainly because The miracles is at least a theatrical film. Hopefully this movie will show how far reaching the Kree’s influence has been, that the galaxy as a whole has been touched by their evil in some way. Showing this would make Captain Marvel’s task of defeating them all that much more visceral, giving him even more reason to stay away from Earth for so long. From there, the Kree could appear in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, becoming the cosmic equivalent of the Ten Rings organization or other recurring villain/villain groups in previous MCU films. By revealing their machinations on a more intimate level, the Kree can become a threat that even the mighty Captain Marvel can incredibly defeat on his own.
