In “Revenge of the Brood,” Carol Danvers is in an X-press elevator to her own personal hell! And the Brood Empress is determined to make sure the Captain and all his friends reach their destination. Saving their team and getting out alive was always the goal, but the odds were more deeply stacked against her team than Carol could have imagined. Overwhelmed and trapped in the Brood’s backyard, Captain Marvel and his team are forced to sacrifice one of their own. But the Brood allowed Carol in the first place, and in doing so, created one of their worst enemies. They will not repeat that mistake.
To mark the occasion, upcoming issues of both series will have a giant connecting cover by Juan Frigeri that will run CAPTAIN MARVEL #46-48 and X-MEN #19-21. This new Captain Marvel/X-Men epic will conclude in CAPTAIN MARVEL #49, where both stories will come together in a galaxy-changing finale!
“I’ve been wanting to write the Brood and have some X-Men guest stars since we start this CAPTAIN MARVEL run in 2019!” Thompson told CBR in a recent interview. “The Brood has been off the table for a long time because of some changes in their role in the Marvel Universe—and that’s true, a little bit, of the X-Men as well. So it’s really exciting that it’s all finally coming together in a story—our biggest Captain Marvel story—does it feel right, you know? It feels even more right because the Brood is real [some] of Carol’s greatest enemies. [Considering] how we’re pushing his powers, his role in the Marvel Universe, and his commitment to being a hero—everything feels like a mess.”
“The Brood are back, and they’re worse than ever,” Duggan explained. “The X-Men must make some tough choices about their pest control services, and what about Broo, the former student at the X-Mansion, we thought he was the Lord Of The Brood? The problems is galactic and it’s all hands on deck with Captain Marvel, Rogue, Gambit, and Polaris. Check for parasites.”
