The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, was harshly criticized in America for appearing at the White House as a “strip club manager” dressed in casual military clothing.
Zelensky has been wearing the same green military uniform since Russia invaded Ukraine in February – including at the G20 summit, where he appeared via video link.
Some people compared him to Churchill when he addressed the US Congress, but others said he should have worn a more respectable suit when he asked the House and Senate for more financial aid for the war effort.
Commentator Tucker Carlson accused the Ukrainian leader of dressing up like a “strip club manager demanding money” while the US suffers from its own border crisis.

Do you agree with these comments from MailOnline readers?
His country is in the midst of a brutal war and Carlson wants the man to show up in an expensive designer suit? Bad optics, moron. The stupidity of calling him the owner of the s.trip club says more about Tucker than about Zelensky. hit the lights, Denver, USA
Shame on you, Tucker, for these shameful comments, and well done to Biden for supporting Zelensky. Tilly Bear, Nottinghamshire, UK
You don’t have to wear a suit and tie mate. FindYouIWill, Farnborough, UK
I guess he’s familiar with strip clubs… Molly, Stockholm, Sweden
Sorry Takems, Zelensky is usually in uniform and body armor because he’s waging a war that a madman is waging, but go ahead and see how he’s dressed from the comfort of your warm home. BennieK, Sheffield, UK
The irony is that if Zalinsky appeared in an expensive suit, tie and shoes. Tucker would still criticize his dress for being too extravagant when his country is at war – and accused him of using US taxpayer dollars to do it. It wouldn’t matter. Tucker needed to say something negative to distract from the successful meeting of the two leaders. Corn 44, Antarctica, USA
Great words from Tucker. How dare this guy show up at our White House dressed like that. This is disrespectful to our great nation. We are the leaders of the free world and it should show us some respect and deference. Stephen, Texas, United States of America

Carlson, the host of an entertainment show posing as a political commentator, is always ready to show his stupidity. Portnalls, Willand, UK
This is the funniest comment ever. Does he even have a brain?! Not sure if buying a suit is high on his priority list. smiley, Dublin, Ireland
Winston Churchill wore one of his iconic ‘siren’ suits when he visited the White House in 1941. If Churchill can show up in a jumpsuit, I’m sure Zelenski can show up in a green sweatshirt and pants. Great people are defined by their actions, not their clothes. iimwnfcqvlrprswrgo, I don’t live in a city, UK
Zelensky dressed so specifically to send a message. First freedom, then you can take care of fancy clothes. CommNSense, Norwich, UK
Yes, he looks awful in that green jumper. But he is now waging a living war. Give him a rest. What if he was wearing a suit and tie? Then he would be accused of selfishness. wgh999, London, UK
I suggest you take a look at Winston Churchill’s WW2 clothing to gauge if it meets your wartime clothing standards…I think he would fail that test too. But Putin would not, Comrade Tucker. CC, Anywhere Everywhere, Christmas Island
Maybe Tucker should go to the Ukrainian front as a war correspondent in his suit. tocc, Chichester
He is a wartime president. His cargo pants and combat boots sent that message. Rugby Sevens, Yokohama, Japan
Fortunately, most reasonable people will judge Zelenskiy by his actions and words, not by his hit clothes! Jules Stafford, Solihull, UK
Zelensky could wear anything and at the same time remain one of the strongest leaders of our time. Be less selfish., Yorkshire, UK
His country is being torn to pieces. He travels with constant security and does not sleep twice in the same place. I’m sure that Zelensky has much more important things on his mind than his clothes. Chris in New England, USA
He took off his suit and became a commoner the day the war started. He was offered to be taken safely out of Ukraine to a safe place, and he refused. He very visibly went outside with his men when he knew he was the number one target as a show of camaraderie. I mean come on Tucker, I know you’re stupid, but not that stupid. My Onions Matter, the G on my keyboard is broken, Canada
Maybe this moron should visit Ukraine and see how they live, what an idiot Tucker Carlson is! He should just go back to the hole he came from! janstan07, Eance, UK
But not all comments were so positive about Zelensky’s choice of clothes:
Tucker is a flake, but I’m sure Zelensky could find a suit. He looked as much of an idiot as Fetterman. Dillytop, Bristol, United States of America
WTH! Surely he can afford a suit and tie? peanutsontoast, Woodland, UK
Can’t agree more with Tucker. J.common sense, UK, UK
We gave him a trillion dollars. Zelensky can show some respect. WyoRyno1994, TheGoodOle, United States
You would wear a suit if you were thanking someone for giving you 40+ billion. Barrington, Barrington Manor, UK
