YG addressed the speculation surrounding PnB Rock on his new song “How to Rob a Rapper.”
On Thursday (October 6), YG was a guest on Power 106’s LA Leakers radio show. The Compton, Calif. rapper participated in the freestyle segment, in which he responded to speculation that was taking a shot at PnB Rock on the track “How to Rob a Rapper” featuring Mozzy and D3szn. The song is included in YG’s new album, I Have Issues, which dropped on September 30th. Spitting over Nipsey Hussle’s “Hussle in the House” beat, YG discussed the merger to close out his verse.
“I gotta say this / And ‘How to Rob a Rapper’ ain’t a diss / It’s just a message to these rappers, please be on your shit,” he raps.
YG faced some backlash from PnB Rock fans after the release of the track. On the song, the 4Hunnid founder lays out a plan on how to keep his colleagues. He even establishes a scenario about stalking a rapper through his Instagram Live and caught him slipping in a restaurant, which was initially believed to be the case in the murder of PnB Rock.
“Get a nigga lackin’, he slackin’ on IG Live / He gon’ show where he at on an accident, he be high,” YG raps. “He gon’ show the jewels he wearin’ and the car that is driving/Stupid nigga showed the same place three times/And it seems that every Friday, after 8/He flex crustacean menus, he likes to date.”
“YG kid af for that ‘how to steal a rapper’ after pnb rock died on the street from his hood but the song is probably months old already,” one Twitter user posted.
“We live in a time where songs can be removed from albums in real time. YG’s ‘How To Rob A Rapper’ should have been removed considering PNB Rock,” opined another person.
“How to steal a rapper is fire, specifically YGs verse…but I totally understand the response. PNB Rock just got clapped and that verse is eerily accurate about how shit went,” another person tweeted in response to hearing the track.
This is not the first time YG has faced backlash for a song about theft. The video for his song “Meet the Flockers” is about stealing from Asian people and received pushback from YouTube employees last year.
The killing of PnB Rock at Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles in South Los Angeles during an attempted robbery occurred roughly three weeks before YG’s album release on 12 September. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the murder.
